Over Stichting Rhythm & Blues Breda
Breda is a beautiful & relaxed city, located in the South of The Netherlands, close to the Belgian border.
The purpose of the foundation is to promote the Blues, Rhythm & Blues and asociated music in every possible way, for example by organising musical gigs in local venues.
We are always looking, listening and sniffing around to discover new real musical talents, many times resulting in succesful bookings, as we did for instance with: Eric Bibb, Ian Siegal, The Nimmo Brothers, Hans Theessink, The Hoax, just to mention a few, often when they were just at the beginning of their careers.
Next to the standard one or two gigs each month we organise an extensive annual Bluesroute in January in about 15 to 25 different venues in the city centre, in March we have the annual 'Breda Blues Night' in the Mezz Concert hall and also a mini-indoor festival in November in the same concert hall, called 'Mezzin' with The Blues'
We are in contact and/or cooperating with several organisations such as Mezz, Popfestival Breda Barst, the Chassé theatre, An Evening with the Blues, Southern Bluesnight, Blues Alive, Moulin Blues Festival, BRBF, (Ge)Varenwinkel festival, Herselt B, Nacht van de Blues Wuustwezel B, Duvel Blues Festival, Puurs B, Bluesmagazine.nl, Dr.Groove’s Blues ‘n Roots Callendar, Dutch Blues Foundation, Dutch National Blues Awards, Heaven Music Magazine, Block Magazine, Back to the Roots Magazine, Rootstime.be and with many agencies in The Netherlands and Belgium.
We publish a monthly Bluesmagazine called "Track", containing Bluesnews, CD-reviews, festivalinfo etc. which is available as a printed b/w magazine, spread throughout the city and is sent in a colour-edition by e-mail to members of the foundation. A membership for one year is € 10,- only. and may be donated on account nr. 1006095 (ING Bank), on behalf of SR&BB Breda. (please state your name and e-mail-address !)
The executive committee of the foundation consists of five enthousiastic volunteers:
Marion van der List (PR), Ger van Leent (a.k.a. Dr. Groove) (Chairman, chief-editor, photographer & talent-scout), Frank van Meer (magazine lay-out & printing), Dick Meijvis (treasurer) and Jurgen Blommaert (bookings & talent-scout, PR).
They all have normal day-time jobs, busy schedules and a family! It takes obviously a lot of spare time to run this foundation, but it’s all done with a BIG HEART FOR THE BLUES!
